    Geschichten aus dem Heike Monogatari

    Auf Seite 40 der 2009 in Japan veröffentlichten Interview-Sammlung mit Schülern des Aikido Gründers Morihei Ueshiba „Profiles of the Founder” (開祖の横顔), befindet sich ein interessantes Zitat (soweit bekannt, ist diese Veröfentlichung nur auf Japanisch verfügbar).

    Dieses Zitat findet man auch in zahlreichen anderen Publikationen, aber dieses Mal bin ich darauf aufmerksam geworden. Das Zitat kommt in einem Interview mit Morito Suganuma vor, welcher 1967, kurz vor dem Tod des Gründers 1969, Uchi-deshi wurde. Suganuma hat im September 2011 Hawaii und das Dojo Aikido of Hilo besucht.

    Zum ersten Mal hörte ich dieses Zitat jedoch von Seishiro Endo vor einigen Jahren, aber wie bereits gesagt, kommt es auch an vielen anderen Stellen vor. Morihei Ueshiba sagte, dass dieses Zitat eines der Geheimnisse (極意 / Gokui) des Aikido sei. Der folgende Text des Zitats is dem Interview mit Suganuma entnommen.

    Born in Hokkaido in 1935, Kyoichi Inoue (井上 強一) became one of the first uchi-deshi to Gozo Shioda (himself a pre-war uchi-deshi to Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei) in the newly established Aikido Yoshinkan in 1955. Along with fellow student Takashi Kushida, and under the direction of Yoshinkan Founder Gozo Shioda, he played a significant role in the development of the Yoshinkan Aikido teaching methodology.

    In 2002, some years after Gozo Shioda’s passing in 1994, he was selected as the second Kancho (Director) of the Yoshinkan. After a number of internal struggles at the Yoshinkan he retired from that position in 2006 to establish a new organization, the Aikido Shinwakan (合氣道親和館).

    The following essay is a translated section from the book “An Introduction to the Kojiki for People Learning Aikido” (合気道を学ぶ人のための古事記入門), by Kyoichi Inoue and Akio Jiromaru, which was published in Japanese in 2012 by Onogoro Juku and Quest Co., Ltd..

    Verhalen uit de Heike Monogatari

    Er is een interessant citaat te vinden op pagina 40 uit ‘Profielen van de Grondlegger’ (開祖の横顔), een verzameling interviews met leerlingen van de Grondlegger van Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, gepubliceerd in Japan in 2009 (vooralsnog alleen verkrijgbaar in het Japans voor zover ik weet).

    Hetzelfde citaat doemt op ontelbare plaatsen op maar het sprong echt van de bladzijde af de eerste keer dat ik het las. Het citaat komt voor in het interview met Morito Suganuma die een uchi-deshi werd van de Grondlegger in 1967, kort voor diens overlijden in 1969. Suganuma kwam naar Hawaii en bezocht Aikido van Hilo in september 2011.

    Ik hoorde het citaat voor het eerst van Seishiro Endo enkele jaren geleden maar zoals ik al zei komt het op ontelbare plaatsen voor. Morihei Ueshiba zei dat dit citaat een van de geheimen ( (極意 / Gokui) was van Aikido. De onderstaande tekst is die zoals Suganuma die citeert:  (more…)

    Tales from Heike Monogatari

    There’s an interesting quotation that appears on page 40 of “Profiles of the Founder” (開祖の横顔), a collection of interviews with students of Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba that was published in Japan in 2009 (it’s still only available in Japanese, so far as I know).

    The same quotation occurs numerous other places, but it happened to pop out at me when I read it this time. The quotation occurs in the interview with Morito Suganuma, who became an Uchi-deshi to the Founder in 1967, shortly before the Founder passed away in 1969. Suganuma came to Hawaii and visited Aikido of Hilo in September 2011.

    I first heard this quotation from Seishiro Endo some years ago, but as I said above it appears in a number of places. Morihei Ueshiba said that this quotation was one of the secrets (極意 / Gokui) of Aikido. The text of the quotation below is as cited by Suganuma.  (more…)
